Coronavirus stimulus tests may be on their way once more.
According to The Washington Post, Democratic and Republican lawmakers have held preliminary discussions regarding a fresh round of potential coronavirus stimulus spending, especially in light of the Omicron strain’s spread across the United States.
Millions of dollars have been approved to help a range of businesses, including restaurants, entertainment venues, gyms, and even minor league sports teams, that are experiencing yet another financial hit as a result of the pandemic’s progression.
The White House told Reuters that it is in regular discussion with lawmakers about a new round of stimulus.
According to the White House, the economy appears to be strong enough to withstand the omicron wave.
Senators Ben Cardin, a Democrat from Maryland, and Roger Wicker, a Republican from Mississippi, are leading the charge on the talks in the hopes of supporting struggling restaurants.
“We started with restaurants, but we’re willing to expand if we get the backing we need,” Cardin said on Wednesday. “There are real worries in other industries.”
For months, the United States appeared to be turning a corner. Coronavirus vaccines and boosters were widely accessible, new therapies were on the market, and the economy was recovering, with the fewest new unemployment claims in November since the late 1960s.
The progress has been made because Congress has spent more than $6 trillion on assistance since the beginning of the pandemic, including a $1.9 trillion package known as the American Rescue Plan, which was President Biden’s first legislative accomplishment.
Those hard-won achievements, however, appear to be at risk as businesses and schools close once more and Americans hunker down against a highly transmissible strain of the illness.
More than 15,000 flights have been canceled since Christmas Eve, with an additional 3,000 canceled on Monday alone, as the pandemic continues to affect the economy’s employees and businesses.
Despite the likelihood that a fourth stimulus check from the federal government is doubtful, state governments around the country are coming up with creative ways to help their citizens. The quantity of assistance given out varies by state.
Depending on the decisions made by each state, the forms of aid provided to US families can vary. As previously said, the fourth stimulus check may not be given by the federal government, but many state governments may be willing to contribute in some way.
